Curry Bunnies

Homemade Beef Burger Patty on a grill

  • 1 Jar of Sweet Pepper & Pineapple Chutney
  • 1kg of pre-ordered dough
  • +- 500g of ground beef mince
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 large tomatoes
  • 3 cloves of fresh garlic
  • Optional: Freshly chopped coriander or spring onion

  • Portion your dough into similar size balls (just smaller than your fist) and cover with a damp cloth
  • Tip: They will grow while set aside so don’t make them too big!
  • Dice the onion, tomato and fresh garlic
  • Heat oil in a large pan and fry the onion, tomato and garlic
  • Add the minced beef and season with salt, pepper and mixed herbs
  • Add the jar of Sweet Pepper & Pineapple Chutney and simmer on low
  • Heat oil in a big, deep frying pan (oil must be approx. 2-3 cm high)
  • Add your dough balls
  • Tip: Don’t overcrowd the pan – rather make it in batches if need be
  • Once one side of the vetkoek is golden brown, turn it over and wait for it to be equal in colour all around
  • Stick a skewer into the center of one vetkoek and make sure it comes out clean
  • Once cooked, drain of excess oil and set aside
  • Serving: Cut the vetkoek in half, fill with mince and garnish with freshly chopped coriander or spring onion
